Domaine de la Renjarde Cotes du Rhone Village 2005

Domaine de la Renjarde is a first-class Southern Rhône Estate which is under the same ownership as Chateau La Nerthe at Chateauneuf-Du-Pape. It is located at Serignan-du-Comtat, which is between Orange and Montpellier. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvédre, Carignan, and Cinsault are planted in soils deep in calcareous sandstones well-sited on gently undulating slopes. The grapes are all machine harvested and are fermented in a combination of concrete and temperature-controlled stainless steel vats.
Its top wine is the Côtes du Rhône cuvée Henri Fabre, which, unusually for this appellation, is a Syrah dominated blend. Winemaker Alain Dugas is one of the most respected in the region.
Cotes Du Rhone Villages Score: 92 Parker's Wine Advocate.
"Readers seeking excellent values are confronted with a treasure trove of wines such as this from recent vintages in the southern Cotes du Rhone appellations. Renjarde's 2000 Cotes du Rhone Villages is a fat, deliciously fruity, obvious but lush, hedonistic effort with copious quantities of black cherry fruit. Although not complex, if fills the mouth, has a seamless texture, and will provide fine drinking for 2-3 years."

Mitolo Jester McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

91/100 Robert Parker

For starters, it is hard to find a better Cabernet for the price than Mitolo’s Cabernet Sauvignon Jester, which spent nine months in used French oak prior to bottling. Approximately 20% of the grapes were dried
on racks (a traditional Amarone technique) in order to concentrate the flavor. Yet there is no pruny or raisiny character to the wine. It is a dense ruby/purple-tinged offering displaying loads of roasted meat,
blackcurrant, and plum aromas, deep, medium to fullbodied flavors, sweet tannin, and an expansive, savory texture. This is a stunning Cabernet Sauvignon to drink now and over the next 7-8 years.

Henschke Johann's Garden 2008

Max Allen, Weekend Australian

I have a big, moist soft spot for this delicious Barossa red - and have had since the first vintage in the late '90s. Once again, the blend of grenache, mataro and shiraz provides a rich, purple mouthful of spicy berries and a warm (15 per cent alcohol) but soft finish.

Henschke Keyneton Estate Euphorium 2007

Jeremy Oliver,

An intense, elegant and measured red that takes time to open in the glass. Its minty, violet-like perfume of redcurrant, cassis, plums and fresh cedar/vanilla oak overlies a suggestion of dark chocolate and a slightly herbal hint of white pepper. Long, smooth and tightly knit, its vibrant palate of spicy berry and plum-like flavour overlies a dusty, fine-grained spine. It finishes savoury and slightly mineral with a persistent core of fruit. 94 pts

Chateau Romassan Rouge Bandol AOC 2001

Château Romassan 'Bandol Rouge' 2001
Château Romassan is located in the Bandol appellation where the land is comprised of limestone, sandstone and marl of the late Cretaceous marine period. These poor soils are offset by the large amount of stone in the soils throughout this appellation. The Bandol appellation is known for its terraced landscapes built from the hard stone with vines, which are planted into vast terraces with varying exposures. Cultivation methods are traditional and the soil is mechanically tilled and young shoots are trained with the greatest care to the plant.
Tasting Notes
This bright ruby colored wine is primarily mourvèdre, which gives the wine a spicy character, which is complimented by a generous bouquet of blackcurrant and morello cherry. The wine is rich with tannins yet highly balanced making it an excellent choice for pairing with beef ribs, spicy dishes and cheese. It is best served at 59-64 degrees Fahrenheit.
Winemaking
The grapes used in making this red wine come from vines no less than 15 years of age:
• Mourvèdre, a local variety which gives the wine its round, robust quality. This is also the dominant varietal in this wine (as required by the appellation)
• Cinsault for its fresh, silky elegance
• Grenache to round off the wine and give it body, strength and bouquet
• Syrah in small quantities to give verve to the wine and slight hints of liquorice
The grapes are all hand picked and go through a stringent selective grape sorting. Fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated vats followed by ageing in oak casks for 18 – 20 months.

Mitolo Serpico McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

94/100 Robert Parker

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Serpico (aged 12 months in new American hogsheads as well as small French barrels) comes from the Willunga district in the southern sector of McLaren Vale, near the ocean.
It exhibits a dense purple color in addition to an extraordinary bouquet of smoke, blueberries, black raspberries, and cassis. Superbly endowed with admirable purity, sweet tannin, a floral/fruity component, and a fabulously layered, concentrated mid-palate as well as finish, it is one of the finest Cabernet Sauvignons to ever emerge from South Australia. It should age well for 10-15 years.

Cuvee des Cadettes 2001

Châteauneuf, Cuvée des Cadettes Château La Nerthe - France
Medium-Full Bodied, Dry, For laying down, Southern Rhône Blend, 14% alc.
"A cuvee that is just coming on the market at the end of 2004 is La Nerthe's 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Cadettes (a blend of 48% Grenache, 26% Syrah, 18% Mourvedre, 6% Cinsault, and 2% miscellaneous grapes), which I reviewed in issue #151. I retasted it on my September visit, and rated it 95+. There are only 1,000 cases of this spectacular Chateauneuf du Pape. It requires 2-4 years of cellaring, but it should keep for two decades."
95/100 points. (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate)
