Brokenwood Pinot Noir 2008

pinot_noir_beechworth
A robust looking Pinot Noir – not a pale, light dry red one! Deep colour and youthful purple tints evident. Great complexity to the aromas. Lifted dark cherry, dark chocolate over sweet earthy characters. Some vanillin oak in the background. As expected at 14.0% alcohol a full-bodied palate but the richness of the fruit more than compensates. Dark fruit and brandied pudding flavours. The balance is aided by ripe tannins and a lingering finish. This will mature further, although enjoyable as a rich young Pinot Noir.

So much wine and so little time to write it up. I'd love to have either the luxury of time or a conscience that allows me to do half arsed reviews but sadly I have neither (at least at the moment). Then again, wineries that deliver the sort of quality and attention to detail that Giant Steps have been dishing up recently deserve a bit of extra effort, and really it's pretty easy for me to sit down, taste a bit of fine wine, offer an opinion and a few words. I should really just shut up and stop moaning shouldn't I? Right then! (slaps hands and rubs them together)

Delicate and dripping Pinosity this bright red coloured wine offers up a scented bouquet of cherry, strawberry, roses, a litte spice, aniseed and a dusty earthy character. On the palate light to medium bodied with fine tannin and bright clean acidity that gives a feeling of real clarity and freshness in the mouth. It has flavours of red cherry and liqueur strawberry with just a touch of earth and dried herb and finishes clean, dry & long. It's a wine that combines delicacy with a firm structure and delivers it in fine style. Excellent.
94 points.

Bourgogne rouge AC 06/07 (Burgundy)

bourgogne rouge
The Louis Jadot Bourgogne Rouge shows a colour of medium intensity, purplish in youth tending
to ruby then garnet with age. A most harmonious, balanced, medium bodied wine, with a plump fruitiness and silky texture offset by round, gentle tannins. Fine and elegant, with a typical,
fragrant varietal bouquet complemented by a deliciously lingering finish. Enjoy the Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir with grilled or roasted red meats, mild game meats and soft cheeses such as
Camembert or Brie. Louis Jadot Bourgogne Rouge may be cellared for 5 years or in great vintages such as 1999 up to 7 years.

Cote de Nuits Village Le Vaucrain (Burgundy) 2002

The Louis Jadot Cote de Nuits Villages Le Vaucrain is a deep coloured, aromatic wine with ripe black and red berry flavours and a classic earthy Pinot Noir bouquet. It shows excellent balance
between the ripe tannins and the elegant yet concentrated fruit, resulting in a silky, approachable wine, even when young, although it may be cellared for 5-7 years. Perfect with grilled and roasted red meats, delicate cheeses, marinated game meats, and in more tannic vintages “oeufs enmeurette”.
