Cloudy Bay Pelorus NV with Leather Luggage Tag

 

The premium sparkling wine of Cloudy Bay made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes sourced from several grower and estate vineyards located within the Wairau Valley in Marlborough, NZ. The pale straw colour and aromas of ripe citrus fruits indicate the Chardonnay origins of Pelorus NV. A bouquet of apple and lemon complements fresh bready notes derived from two years bottle ageing on lees. The deliciously crisp palate displays toasty, creamy complexity, enhanced by a lingering nutty finish. Serious bubbles!

I have not always been an admirer of this label, but this wine swept me away; the clean, smooth, fruit-driven bouquet with its twist of nut and cashew, the almost delicate palate with attractively smooth nectarine and citrus flavours running though to a beguiling finish. 95 out of 100. Bollinger Special Cuvée

Extremely fresh with an intense lime -lemon flavored palate the bubbles give a creamy texture and the yeast autolysis adds another dimension. The Special Cuvée is the purest expression of the Bollinger style; of its craftsmanship and its singular conception of what champagne should be. It is, therefore, on this wine that the House of Bollinger shows how it is different from other Champagne Houses, asserts its qualitative policy and by which it asks to be judged.

 

Whether or not you particularly like the unmistakeable Bollinger style, you have to respect it. Pinot noir (60 per cent) and pinot meunier (15 per cent) drive the wine, augmented by fermentation in old oak barrels. The result is a complex spicy, bready, toasty, baked apple bouquet, the palate complete and round, with an unexpected touch of delicacy, and a pleasing, dry finish. Rating: 94 out of 100, James Halliday.

A superbly crafted vintage Champagne with luxurious honey and yeast flavours with just a touch of spice on its long, elegant finish. Though Moët's NV can be seen in just about every country in the world, it is with their vintage expression that this great house founded its quality reputation.

Fresh white fruits such as peach and pear appear on the nose along with dried fruits, hints of toast and malt notes.The palate is inviting and firm with ample and fleshy fruitiness. This generosity grows, stretching to caramelised and almost mineralised citrus fruits.After hand-picking, the grapes were pressed very gently - only the best juice from the first pressing was used. Grapes from different 'crus' were pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks separately to imbue complexity to the final blend. After malolactic fermentation, the vats were blended and bottled to undergo secondary fermentation. Aged for 4-5 years on the lees before disgorging.
