Introduced as one of the first Bin wines within the Penfolds portfolio, it has become an Australian classic. Indeed this wine style has universal appeal because of its intense fruit definition, ripe fleshy palate structure and generosity of flavour.
A multi-district blend since the late 1970's it has won "Red Wine of the Year" twice, in 1991 and 1995 at the International Wine Challenge, held each year in London.

Penfolds Bin 128 is one of the most distinctive reds in the Penfolds stable. Firstly, as a 'Coonawarra Shiraz', it is one of the few Penfolds reds that isn't a multi regional blend. It is also matured solely in French oak. French oak generally lends a wine understated, aromatic characters and is therefore a better choice with more subtly flavoured wines.
Coonawarra typically produces zesty, spicy and supple Shiraz fruit that exhibits a richness of flavour and a mouth filling roundness on the palate. Bin 128 is true to this style.
In 1981 the wine changed name from Bin 128 Claret to Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz.
Vintages Available: 2013 $49.95
The introduction of Penfolds Bin 138 (first vintage 1992) was a natural response to a growing international market, increasingly interested in the highly perfumed and fleshy styles made famous by the wines of Chateâuneuf du Pape. Blended together, the varieties of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre can make a sublime wine with great personality and structure.
Penfolds sources much of the fruit for Bin 138 from low-yielding, independently grown grapes from around the Barossa Valley.
Vintage conditions and ultimately the nature of the fruit determine the final blend. Hence each year the varietal make-up can vary accordingly.

Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz has earned a reputation among wine consumers and collectors as an Australian classic, known to many as "Baby Grange". With all its ripe fruit, richness and generosity, the wine has been much loved over several generations of wine drinkers.
Predominantly a Barossa Valley wine at one point, the Bin 389 is now a multi-district South Australian blend with fruit sourced from the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Padthaway, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Clare Valley, and more recently, Penfolds' new vineyards in Robe and Bordertown.
Over the last 40 years Bin 389 has developed a strong identity for its consistency, reliability and value. Wine consumers buy it because it's delicious to drink, even when first released. Collectors appreciate it because the wine over-delivers on quality

1 x bottle of Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2013 in wooden wine box with wine tools.
The Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon is a multi-district blend largely from the south east of South Australia - specifically, the Limestone Coast (including Coonawarra and Robe) and Bordertown.
In some years the wine may contain a parcel of Western Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was first released in 1993 with the superb 1990 vintage. The wine was developed by John Duval, Penfolds former Chief Winemaker, in response to the increasing availability of high quality Cabernet Sauvignon fruit.
Although the style embraces the Penfolds multi-district blending philosophy, Bin 407 has become a definitive cool climate Australian Cabernet.
Vintages Available: 2012 $89.95
While Grange is now seen as the quintessential Australian wine, John Davoren's work with St. Henri is of equal importance. Indeed both these wines set new standards for their day with St. Henri establishing an elegant, perfumed style based on fruit definition and maturation in old oak.
Originally the wines were called 'Penfolds St. Henri Claret', but since 1991, with the release of the 1989 vintage, St. Henri has been labelled varietally. Like Grange, the wines have always been Shiraz driven, with small varying percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Nowadays St. Henri is a multi-district blend drawing Shiraz from the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, the foothills of the Adelaide Hills, and Langhorne Creek. Cabernet Sauvignon, which provides firmness and structure to the St. Henri style, is sourced from the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and Bordertown.

An Australian Icon - Grange is considered one of the world's finest red wines.
Grange is arguably Australia's most famous wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Grange boasts an unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951 and clearly demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia.
Penfolds Grange displays fully ripe, intensely flavoured and textured Shiraz grapes. The result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as one of the most consistent of the world's great wines. The Grange style is the original and most powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy.
