There is no more elegant bird than the Swan, so Riedel thought it only fitting that their new Swan decanter should embody the same natural grace. The body of the decanter mimics the gentle curvature of the form of a Swan, forming "J" shape with an exaggeratedly elongated straight neck that narrows to the elliptical lip. Wine is simply poured into the wider opening of the Swan's "tail" (which also forms a natural handle for services) then effortlessly poured into the glass from the narrow "neck". As fascinating to look at as it is functional to use, the Swan decanter does the job of separating sediment from older wines, while allowing the younger ones to aerate and mature. Mouth-blown and made of lead crystal, the Swan holds a standard 750ml bottle of wine.

A variety of the wines winged dove, the Paloma is a bird with a curvilinear form that lends itself well to this stylish decanter. As with the Swan, wine is poured into the widest opening in the "tail" of the vessel and poured from the narrower curved neck. The "tail" a natural hand-hold, enables a sure grip, and the slender, angled neck with its elliptical mouth provides a perfect dripless pour. Mouth-blown and made of lead crystal, the Paloma holds a standard 750ml bottle of wine.

Handmade by only our top master glassblowers in the finest lead crystal. Famed for their vibrant pink colour and long, stick-like legs, the Flamingo is an immediately recognised bird. Equally distinctive is Riedel's new Flamingo decanter - though it's not at all pink. Flamingo has a broad, bulb-shaped base and an exaggerated long and slender neck reminiscent of the legs of the bird for which it was named. The extended neck has a lip that shears off at an acute angle and both characteristics provide an easier pour. The base thoughtfully features a very deep punt that accommodates the entire thumb, while allowing the remaining fingers to securely cradle the outside of the decanter. This design provides perfect stability and control when pouring, but also catches sediment and reinforces the strength of the decanter. The Flamingo holds a standard 750ml bottle of wine. And for those who prefer their Flamingoes pink, Riedel suggests a nice bottle of Rose.

The alluring Mamba, the latest design by Maximilian J. Riedel, is redolent of a sleek mamba snake. As the wine flows through every bend it is double-decanted, “opening up” upon entering the decanter, achieving what would take hours of decanting in a typical bowl-shaped carafe. Following the serpentine Eve decanter (2008), the Mamba channels the vigor of the famous Black Mamba, the world’s fastest snake. Mirroring the snake’s poised upright stance, the Mamba’s coiled base creates a series of air pockets which “charge” the wine as it moves towards the elegant upright neck upon pouring. While the wine makes its journey through the curvaceous glass, the Mamba emits a gurgle – an aural reminder of the decanting accomplished by the force of the wine passing through the vacuum created in the Mamba’s base.
